Who Am I?

My name is Elena and I am 20 years old. I am originally from sunny Fort Myers, Florida. This upcoming fall semester will mark the beginning of my third year at Santa Fe College. I expect to graduate Fall 2015 and transfer into the Dietetics program at the University of Florida. After my graduation from UF I plan to pursue an internship on the west coast, most likely Washington or California (these are likely locations for my boyfriend's future job). As a Dietician I want to either operate a private practice or work in pediatrics with childhood obesity. Other aspirations include writing my own cook book and blog, and changing America's perception of living a healthy lifestyle.

Now that the boring stuff is out of the way, here are some more interesting facts about myself. I love fashion and style, I believe that clothes are unspoken autobiographies. Personal style says so much about one's self. I am also a proud mommy of a retired rescued greyhound named Moose. Adopting Moose has taught me so may things in life, llike patience and unconditional love. One of the things I am most passionate about is veganism. I've been vegan for about 3 plus years. Veganism has made me a more compassionate and loving person. I am an avid cook and love transforming classic favorites into healthy veggielicious meals.

I am taking this Intro to Humanities course because I love learning about other ideas, practices and beliefs. I find the world around me extremely interesting and want to understand different ideologies. I hope to bring an objective outlook to this course. In high school I took classes like: world religions, social justice and morality that I believe will help my in this course. As I mentioned previously, I love learning about different beliefs and I hope that my eagerness and participation will be beneficial in this course.

In my life I would say that I encounter the humanities on a daily basis. I've been working in retail for about 3 years now and I believe that working in this industry exposes you to the humanities. There are major cultural clashes in retail as well as psychological and behavioral. By taking this class I hope to better understand humanitarian and others beliefs. I hope that this class can help me to avoid stereotyping others, so I can better communicate with the world around me.
